The Relationship between the Devi and Devata’s with Jyotish Astology

Pundit Roshan Singh

In Vedic astrology, the days of the week are directly governed by the Navagraha (nine planetary bodies). Because each planet (graha) embodies specific cosmic energies, human behaviors, and karmic lessons, Hindu tradition allocates specific devis and devatas to each day to help individuals harmonize with those planetary influences.

The astrological link between the planets and their respective deities follows a highly structured metaphysical order:

1. Sunday (Ravivar)

Astrological Ruler: Surya (The Sun)

Ruling Deities: Lord Shiva, Lord Surya, and Agni

Astrological Link: The Sun represents the soul (Atman), vitality, and leadership. Worshipping the Sun God on this day helps boost confidence, overcome health obstacles, and illuminate one’s path to success.

2. Monday (Somvar)

Astrological Ruler: Chandra (The Moon)

Ruling Deity: Lord Shiva

Astrological Link: In astrology, the Moon rules the mind, emotions, and intuition. Lord Shiva is known as the master of the mind (Chandrashekhara—He who wears the moon on his head). Praying to Him helps bring emotional stability and mental peace.

3. Tuesday (Mangalvar)

Astrological Ruler: Mangala (Mars)

Ruling Deities: Lord Hanuman, Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, and Kartikeya

Astrological Link: Mars represents courage, energy, and determination. Hanuman and Durga embody warrior energy and strength, making this day perfect for overcoming difficult life challenges and warding off negative energies.

4. Wednesday (Budhavar)

Astrological Ruler: Budha (Mercury)

Ruling Deities: Lord Ganesha and Lord Vishnu

Astrological Link: Mercury governs intellect, communication, and commerce. Lord Ganesha is the ultimate remover of obstacles and the patron of wisdom, helping to bless ventures involving business, learning, and public speaking.

5. Thursday (Guruvar)

Astrological Ruler: Brihaspati / Guru (Jupiter)

Ruling Deity: Lord Vishnu

Astrological Link: Jupiter is the “Guru” of the gods, ruling over wisdom, philosophy, spirituality, and prosperity. Worshipping Vishnu brings knowledge, spiritual growth, and abundance.

6. Friday (Shukravar)

Astrological Ruler: Shukra (Venus)

Ruling Deities: Goddess Lakshmi, Mahalakshmi, and Shakti

Astrological Link: Venus rules love, beauty, wealth, and worldly pleasures. The feminine divine (Shakti) embodies the abundance and nurturing qualities associated with this planet, making Fridays ideal for manifesting prosperity and harmony.

7. Saturday (Shanivar)

Astrological Ruler: Shani (Saturn)

Ruling Deities: Lord Shani and Lord Hanuman

Astrological Link: Saturn is the strict judge of karma, governing time, discipline, and perseverance. Devotees propitiate Shani to reduce hardship, while Hanuman is worshipped to provide strength to endure Saturn’s difficult transit periods (like Sade Sati).

Understanding these associations allows individuals to use specific days for spiritual practices (vrats), mantras, and rituals to align with celestial energies
